Benefits Of PVI And Other Sexual Activities

Sexual Activities

The potential benefits of sexual (penile-vaginal and other sexual activities) intercourse cause physical and mental health benefits, but are there risks associated with having sex?

Having better psychological and physiological health is directly associated with penile and vaginal intercourse.

The Potential Health Benefits And Risks Of Sex

There are potential physical and mental health benefits of sexual intercourse. However, there is an emphasis placed on the risk associated with sexual activities and not the health benefits.

In research done it is reported that an observed trend that sexual medicine should be concerned not only with treating but should be looking at the evidence-based on promoting the positive health aspects of sexual intercourse.

Based on verifiable observations and experience rather than theory or pure logic; the evidence on psychological and physiological differences between sexual behaviors tells that the practice of sexual intercourse weighs heavily on satisfaction.

Sexual Satisfaction PVI vs Masturbation

Masturbation

Sexual intercourse generates a great wealth of satisfaction both physically and mentally. When looking at the mental aspect, we could argue that masturbation is widely associated with only the mental side of satisfaction.

When a person masturbates, they are stimulating the genitals with the hand for sexual pleasure. Research has shown that this practice is normal. There are health benefits to gain from this kind of sexual stimulation.

Masturbation could be considered the white elephant in the room as many people masturbate but they don’t talk about it.

There are different reasons why people masturbate it could be that it helps them to feel relaxed, they want to have a better understanding of their body or they just want to release sexual tension.

Studies have revealed that the health benefits of masturbation can result in positive outcomes. Some are listed:-

  • Masturbation releases endorphins that influence mental wellbeing
  • Orgasms may help reduce menstrual cramping and speed up childbirth
  • Masturbation can help to provide a positive body image
  • Masturbation is a form of safe sex that helps you become familiar with your sexual responses

There could also be cases where there is no sexual partner or doing because it feels good. Whatever the reason for this practice, it is quite normal. Whatever makes the individual(s) comfortable is still a personal decision.

Penile-Vaginal Intercourse

However, it doesn’t matter what part of the globe you find yourself in, penile-vaginal intercourse is significantly regarded as giving the greatest satisfaction in terms of physical and mental health and well-being.

It is the most practiced (hetero) sexual behavior across the globe. Some benefits are listed:

  • lowering blood pressure
  • burning calories
  • strengthening muscles
  • increasing heart health
  • reducing your risk of heart disease, stroke, and hypertension
  • increasing libido

Penile-vaginal intercourse (PVI) is positively associated with greater sexual, and intimate relationships, mental health, and life satisfaction.

Studies have shown that the association between pre-eclampsia (high blood pressure disorder during pregnancy) and less Penile-vaginal intercourse (PVI) is that “birth control methods” that prevent sperm exposure may play a role in the cause of pre-eclampsia.

It is also associated with “habitation” and a barrier to contraceptive use. Oral sex (Fellatio) is also associated with decreased risk.

Hormonal And Neurohormonal Effects

The lack of frequent penile-vaginal intercourse (PVI) can have adverse effects on testosterone levels as there is evidence that it can lead to erectile dysfunction.

Successful restoration of erectile function, through a variety of non-hormonal treatments, can lead to a return of normal testosterone levels. Some treatments are listed:-

  • Psychological
  • Surgical Vacuum device
  • Yohimbine
  • Prostaglandin EL

Biochemistry Of Ejaculate – Men with erectile dysfunction showed a greater frequency of masturbation. This is associated with greater prostate-specific antigen levels.

Masturbation is also associated with prostate abnormalities including swollen or tender prostate.

The semen ejaculated by men who masturbate and those who have penile-vaginal intercourse revealed that the volume of semen plasma, sperm count motility, and percentage of healthy sperm are greater in the PVI samples.

Prostatodynia – This is characterized by urinary symptoms and pelvic pain suggestive of prostatitis but with a normal prostate examination and without signs of inflammation or infection in prostatic secretions.

In addition, masturbation can lead to either no improvement or an exacerbation of pain symptoms.

Cardiovascular Health

Resting heart rate variability (HRV) – reflects a fluctuation in heart rate response to subtle homeostatic demands, including differing autonomic effects on inspiration and exhalation.

This is driven largely by the parasympathetic nervous system (particularly the vagus nerve), which demonstrates sexual arousal.

It also has a longitudinal prediction of lower mortality rates among normal and persons with a history of heart disease.

Pre-Eclampsia – This is a condition of pregnancy. With pre-eclampsia, you might have high blood pressure and high levels of protein in the urine that indicate kidney damage (proteinuria) or other signs of organ damage.

This usually happens after 20 weeks of pregnancy in women whose blood pressure had previously been in the standard range.

Studies have shown that the lack of penile-vaginal intercourse can adversely affect one’s health and can lead to analgesia and pain resulting in health conditions.

Other Sexual and Non-sexual activities

Other sexual activities such as (oral sex, and anal sex) were negatively associated. However, they were no less connected with the satisfaction measures.

Anal Sex

A 2010 study published in the Journal of Medicine found that about 31% of women who engaged in anal sex encountered a 94% orgasm.

This is mainly due to the high levels of sensitive nerves endings, some of which are connected to the genitals,

It is also suggested that males having anal sex can stimulate the prostate and lead to orgasm. Prostate organs are intense enough to send waves of orgasmic pleasure to the head and toe.

Oral Sex

Oral sex was once considered a taboo act, now it’s what many couples either practice or want to indulge in, while others will find it a disgusting way of giving pleasure.

There are potential health benefits from practicing oral sex. Some are listed:-

  • increase bonds between partners
  • add thrills to your sexual life
  • getting better sleep
  • antiaging
  • relieves stress
  • improves memory
  • relieves pain
  • controls blood pressure

There are however some side effects associated with oral sex such as causing HIV and other STDs, herpes, and the increased risk of developing gonorrhea.

There are nonsexual activities that can keep individuals active without having sex on their minds and these would involve gardening, Interacting with pets, having a strong network of friends, and also having a strong religious platform.

Nonsexual activities like abstinence can be an effective way to avoid the risks that come with sex. It can also help you to focus on other things in your life that are important to you.

Conclusion

Sex plays an integral part in your life and forms the natural process of reproduction when PVI is practiced. It also gives way to intimate involvement and pleasure and also improves self-esteem.

Penile-vaginal intercourse or masturbation can offer many pleasures benefiting all facets of your life. There are, however, a few health risks involved.

You can have benefits without involvement in sexual practices, such as exercising, interacting with pets, or having a strong network of friends. Also, having a strong religious platform could offer potential benefits to living a healthy life.

  1. I think sex is important due to the fact that it gives way to intimate involvement and pleasure and also improves self-esteem. But of course with everything there are health risks involved, but I think you have that with everything. As long as you do it save and be aware of the risks, I think you should enjoy it.

  2. Hi, thank you for your interesting read on this topic. There is a lot of information here, which provides a great overview, quite broadly, of the benefits of PVI and other sexual activities. I can see this is clearly written from a secular perspective, which is perfectly understandable and appropriate. It would be great to see you write an related article or provide an addition to this that writes from a religious worldview. Such as what sex means for the Christian or other religious denomination. I think this would really be of benefit, considering the large number of the world’s population are certainly interested in a healthy and mutual sex life with their partner or spouse. But also, we are not just sexual human beings, but spiritual. I think this would be a great addition to your topic. Thank you for such an interesting post.
